Paul Jackson - Company Chairman
Paul was a company co-founder and has worked with the organisation since 1981. He joined the company as a consultant and came with a wealth of technical skills, having worked at British Steel and British Shipbuilders as the Technical Manager. He is a qualified metallurgist, occupational hygienist and an expert in the field of asbestos monitoring. He has a sound practical expertise and recognises the wealth of success that ‘hands on’ experience can give.
The company has expanded and now has over 90 members of staff. In 2001 the two original shareholders retired and he took over as major shareholder and Company Chairman. Paul has a clear vision on the future of the company. He is a strong leader. The ethos is that of a strong ‘family’ company working in a PLC professional way, always prepared for all eventualities including being ready for sale. Selling the business is not an option; rather it is a working principle. He is a fair minded person and has the ability to view a situation from all angles. He constantly looks to the future. He has high standards for his staff, but will not ask anyone to do anything that he himself has not already done. He always participates in celebration, socialising and team building exercises. He takes an active part in external training sessions and conducts his own transfer of knowledge training session. Currently he is probably the biggest company asset. He has the personal skills which make him a good manager and he has learned from his training what works well and what works best.
John Wallace - Managing Director
John has spent more than thirty years in mechanical testing, beginning in 1977 at NEI International Research & Development Co Ltd in Newcastle upon Tyne when, in his role as Group Leader of Materials Testing found himself competing on a regular basis with the fledgling MIS Testing! In 1990 he moved on to establish a new laboratory in Salford, Greater Manchester for MTS Testing, and this quickly became established as the prime laboratory in the North West. With the acquisition of MTS by Bodycote in 1990, the pace of development increased and John was involved in the rapid growth of Bodycote Testing in both the UK and Europe.
After 17 years with Bodycote, John moved on to Caparo Testing Technologies, a newly established group comprising their existing laboratories and a group of NDT businesses, acquired from a company in the London area. CTT became an established force in testing very quickly and offers a very comprehensive service including non-destructive testing and materials testing.
An opportunity arose in 2008 for John to return to the Manchester area to establish from scratch a new laboratory for MIS Testing, and this was developed very quickly between the end of December 2008 and January 2009 to a fully UKAS accredited metallurgical laboratory with top class facilities.
Richard - Non-executive Director
Richard joined the board of MIS Mechanical Ltd as a non-executive director in 2009, bringing with him over 40 years' experience of working in material testing laboratories. He was, for 10 years, the Company Metallurgist of General Accident Insurance Group and left them to form MTS, which, in 1990, he sold to Bodycote International plc, joining their board. Richard left Bodycote and in 1996 acquired the assets of the Regional Rail Laboratories from British Rail creating Scientifics Ltd. He expanded that business significantly over the next 9 years before selling the company and moving into "semi-retirement". The board of MIS will benefit from Richard's vast experience across all facets of business and he will provide the impetus to expand the MIS group even further."
Bob Hannant - Test House Group Manager
Bob has over 30 years experience in Materials Testing. He started his working career in 1975 with NEI Nuclear Systems Limited as a Metallurgical Technician, testing materials in support of AGR and PWR Power Stations.
He studied metallurgy part-time during 1980–1990 and graduated with an Honours Degree in Metallurgy.
Bob was promoted to Engineer status and was Materials Engineer, responsible for Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station. He has carried out various research and development projects in Creep, Stress Rupture, Thermal Fatigue and Fracture Toughness, Fatigue and general Materials Testing.
Bob moved to International Research and Development in 1990 when Rolls Royce and Associates acquired NEI and continued as Materials Scientist/Section Leader in the Materials Testing Division of IRD.
Bob left IRD in 1994 and joined Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth working as a Senior Metallurgist. He had key responsibilities within the dockyard laboratory and has had hands on experience working within the primary cooling system of the UK’s Nuclear Submarine fleet.
After two short years Bob joined Bodycote Testing and remained there for over 12 years, progressing to Operational Management status, with total responsibility for Bodycote Teesside. Bob was a key player in Bodycote Teesside’s success over the last ten years. He is very customer focussed and prepared to go the extra mile to ensure total client satisfaction.
In late 2008 Bob joined MIS Testing to be part of and be involved in a rapidly developing Materials Testing Company, who strives on customer satisfaction. Bob’s ambition for the future is to establish MIS Testing as one of the key players in materials testing within the UK.
